Olaplex: ALL The Facts

As you may have spotted, we’ve got some fabulous promotions running on Olaplex at the moment - but if you’ve never heard of this wonder product, we’re here to help! Whether you’re clueless, curious or already converted, see below for our top tips and FAQs on the magical miracle worker….

So, What Is Olaplex?
Olaplex is an intensive treatment that repairs your hair, usually used mixed into hair colour, but can also be used before a blow-dry or during a cut & finish.
Inside our hair strands, a ladder-type network of ‘bonds’ exists that give the hair strength and form. These bonds get damaged and broken during chemical services (such as bleaching and colouring). Usually, 50-70% of these get rebonded after rinsing off your colour, but if you use Olaplex, 90-100% are rebonded; resulting in healthier and stronger hair!

How Exactly Is It Applied?
Olaplex is a three-part treatment; the first two of which have to be done in a salon, and the third part you take home to use yourself.
Olaplex Step Number 1 and 2 will be applied by your colourist; they’ll mix the liquid-type no 1. substance into your colour bowl and then apply no.2 at the basin. If you’re having just a blow-dry service, or a cut & finish, your stylist will apply both the no.1 step followed by the no.2 step at the basin. There will be a 20 minute period where the treatment is left on the hair to work its magic!
Olaplex Step Number 3 (‘Hair Perfector’) is where you take things into your own hands; use the take-home treatment once a week. Apply to damp hair, comb through, and leave on for at least 10 minutes before shampooing and conditioning as normal. If you want to maximise the effect, leave it on overnight - as recommended by Kim Kardashian.

The Science Bit:
Olaplex targets the sulfur-hydrogen bonds that break and reform during the colour process. It adds carbon bonds to form disulfide bonds that strengthen the hair and help to prevent further breakage. This system is fully patented, so don’t be swayed by copy-cat imitations on the market!

Will I Notice A Difference To My Hair?
Your hair will feel sleeker and more manageable after colouring than it normally would. Because all the repair work is being done on the inside of the hair, it will take a few repeat treatments before you notice a physical difference on the outside, but many of our clients swear they can see a result after their first time. Olaplex also smoothes the hair, so it will immediately look sleeker, shinier and be easier to manage.
Beauty Queen Kim Kardashian swears by Olaplex and even gives it credit for her platinum hair, saying: ‘When your hair is really damaged, if you sleep in that, it really works. I notice a huge difference.

Is It Suitable For Me?
Olaplex works for everyone! Curly, thick and fine hair - it will help reduce frizz, dullness, and even make curls more defined and luscious. Slightly damaged, very damaged or even not visibly damaged at all - if you’re having any kind of heat or chemical process done, it’ll be beneficial.
Anything Else I Should Know?

Contrary to what people think, you don’t have to be a bleach blonde to use Olaplex! It’s ideal for brunettes who want to go blonde, as it allows hair to be lightened quicker and less aggressively.
And you don't even have to have coloured hair. Olaplex can benefit those who have any kind of damage; from chemical treatments to hair that’s fried from styling tools.
